Best for: families, groups or longer stays
Location: Different from most of the city’s other hotels in that although located downtown, it’s in the city’s West End, which has more of a quiet neighborhood feel
Can’t-miss feature: some of the rooms are apartment style with fully equipped kitchens and living areas making them a nice alternative to Airbnb.
In a nutshell: For those looking for more apartment amenities and a more quiet, local feel.
The Como is a place for the DIY and looking for the locals only experience type of traveler. It doesn’t have the luxe touches or the amenities that many other properties around town might, but it’s located in the much more residential and quiet, but still centrally located West End of downtown. Many of the units come with full kitchens and have one or two bedrooms making it ideally for families or those traveling in a group. The staff are friendly and are happy to facilitate requests like for in-room Peloton bikes, special calming playlists or local neighborhood tips. It’s also excellently located for those who enjoy the beach. You’ll be steps away from English Bay and located on a prime stretch of the Seawall which are excellent for walking and jogging.
Rooms
The hotel only has 32 rooms that start at approximately 330sqft for a King Studio Suite all the way to 850sqft for a two-bedroom garden level unit. Not all come with kitchens, so make sure if that is a feature you’re interested in book one that includes one. The design leans, clean, minimal and barely there. If you’re looking for a design forward experience, this won’t be it, but if you are looking for a little more space, some home-like amenities this is the place to book. Two-bedroom suites are great for families. It’s a great less affordable option as well.
Food and drink
No on site food and drink to speak of, but within walking distance to plenty of restaurants and cafes. Also for those with kitchens, there is a Whole Foods and Safeway close by to pick-up groceries.
Amenities and experiences
Not an amenity forward hotel per se, no gym, spa or restaurant, but the hotel does offer bikes to explore Stanley Park nearby or the paths that go by the waterfront. They do offer a few curated packages for guests like the “Well-Being Package” that includes a red-light therapy mat, healthy snacks and aromatherapy pods to be in-room upon arrival.
What to do nearby
Plenty to do nearby. You’re steps from English Bay meaning the beach is at your finger tips. Stanley Park is also minutes away by bike. Enjoy walking the seawall which is also close by. Robson Street shopping is about a 30-minute walk as is the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Insider tip
Such a great find for those looking for an alternative to Airbnb. The hotel can arrange special things like a in-room Peloton bike or facilitate extra amenities to host a meeting in your suite. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Family friendly: Yes
Accessibility: Accessible rooms available
Wellness: Guests can arrange amenities like a red-light therapy box, calming playlist and other workout equipment upon request
